NPP and NDC Primaries: The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has initiated investigations into alleged electoral corruption and violent incidents connected to recent political party primaries organised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a public notice released on Sunday, 8 February, the Office of the Special Procecutor confirmed that the investigations focus on the NPP presidential primaries conducted on 31 January 2026 and the NDC parliamentary primaries held in the Ayawaso East Constituency on 7 February 2026.
According to the statement, the probe will examine allegations of vote buying and vote selling, as well as the sources of funds allegedly used to facilitate corrupt practices during the primaries.
The OSP further disclosed that during the NDC parliamentary primaries at Ayawaso East, one of the candidates, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, is alleged to have assisted a group of individuals who physically attacked an OSP officer. The officer was reportedly serving an investigative directive related to claims of electoral malpractice at the time of the incident.

Following the alleged assault, the Special Prosecutor’s office has opened additional investigations into the attack on its authorised officer, who was carrying out official duties under the law.
The OSP also reminded the public that Ghana’s electoral laws strictly prohibit corrupt activities during elections, including vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, threats, and any form of violence connected to the electoral process. Authorities emphasised that such offences carry serious legal consequences.
