The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has assured applicants seeking recruitment into the Ghana Prisons Service of a fair, transparent, and merit-based selection process, stressing that no applicant would be unfairly treated or disadvantaged.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak gave the assurance during a working visit to the Ghana Prisons Service Training School screening centre in Accra, where he inspected facilities, observed the ongoing screening exercise, and interacted with applicants as well as officials supervising the process.

The visit formed part of the Ministry’s statutory oversight and supervisory responsibilities over security agencies under its mandate.

Addressing applicants at the centre, Hon. Muntaka emphasized that the recruitment exercise was being conducted strictly in line with approved procedures and established guidelines, urging applicants to follow due process and refrain from attempting to bypass the system.

He cautioned applicants against engaging the services of fraudulent middlemen and so-called “protocol agents” who claim they can influence the recruitment process in exchange for money. According to him, such claims are false and misleading, and any individual found engaging in recruitment fraud whether applicant or intermediary will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

To further curb fraudulent practices, the Minister explained that a centralised and traceable payment system has been introduced for the recruitment exercise. This system allows applicants to independently verify payments and obtain receipts, significantly reducing opportunities for extortion and impersonation.

Hon. Muntaka also disclosed that robust monitoring and intelligence mechanisms have been deployed to protect the integrity of the recruitment process.

These include active oversight by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), the National Signals Bureau, and other relevant security agencies. The coordinated effort, he noted, is aimed at detecting and preventing any attempt to manipulate or compromise the exercise.

The Minister commended the Commander and officers in charge of the screening centre for their effective planning, professionalism, and smooth execution of the process. He also praised the applicants for their discipline, orderly conduct, and cooperation throughout the screening.

He encouraged other security agencies under the Ministry to learn from one another and adopt best practices, particularly in recruitment, transparency, and personnel management, as part of efforts to strengthen public confidence in the country’s security institutions.
