COCOBOD

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has strongly denied reports alleging that it provided a GH¢12 million sponsorship package to Ghana’s national football team.

In a public notice issued to address the circulating claims, the Board described the allegation as false, misleading, and entirely without factual basis. The report had suggested that COCOBOD donated GH¢12 million to the Ghana national football team while neglecting cocoa farmers.

COCOBOD categorically rejected the claim, stressing that it has not diverted any funds intended for cocoa farmers to support the national team or any other sponsorship activity.

“No Reallocation of Farmer Funds”

According to the Board, at no point has it reallocated payments or resources meant for cocoa farmers for sponsorship purposes. It reaffirmed that all financial commitments remain aligned with its statutory mandate.

COCOBOD emphasised that its primary responsibility is to safeguard the welfare of cocoa farmers and ensure sustainable development within Ghana’s cocoa sector.

Commitment to Farmers

The Board highlighted its ongoing focus on:

  • Prompt payment for cocoa purchases
  • Provision of farming inputs
  • Extension services
  • Long-term investment in cocoa production and sector growth

Officials reiterated that supporting farmers remains central to the Board’s operations and financial planning.

Call to Rely on Official Sources

In its statement, COCOBOD urged the public to disregard what it described as misinformation and to rely solely on official communication channels for verified updates.

The Board’s response comes amid heightened public sensitivity regarding the use of state funds and support for national sports activities.

By addressing the matter publicly, COCOBOD seeks to reassure cocoa farmers and stakeholders that resources dedicated to the sector remain protected and properly allocated.
