NVIDIA and Qualcomm rally global partners as race for next-generation 6G leadership intensifies.

NVIDIA and Qualcomm: At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, early battle lines for the 6G era have begun to take shape. Even before formal 6G standards are established, global technology leaders are forming strategic alliances to position themselves at the centre of the next generation of wireless connectivity.

Two semiconductor heavyweights — NVIDIA and Qualcomm — have emerged at the forefront, each rallying different segments of the technology ecosystem.

NVIDIA Builds a Telecom Power Bloc

NVIDIA announced it would collaborate with leading global telecom operators and network infrastructure providers to build AI-native 6G networks. Partners include:

  • SK Telecom
  • BT Group
  • Deutsche Telekom
  • T-Mobile
  • SoftBank

Infrastructure firms such as Cisco, Ericsson, and Nokia also joined the initiative.

The coalition’s goal is to shift wireless network infrastructure toward a software-defined architecture powered by artificial intelligence. NVIDIA envisions 6G as the backbone of what it calls “Physical AI” — a system linking autonomous vehicles, industrial robots, sensors and smart infrastructure in real time.

CEO Jensen Huang described the shift as transformational: “AI is redefining computing and driving the largest infrastructure buildout in human history, and telecommunications is next.”

Qualcomm Unites Devices and IoT Players

Meanwhile, Qualcomm has assembled more than 30 companies under its own 6G coalition. The alliance includes firms in connected mobility, IoT devices, telecommunications and consumer electronics — notably LG Electronics.

Qualcomm’s coalition focuses on developing AI-powered 6G technologies for a broad range of applications, from smart devices and data services to air and ground traffic management systems. The company outlined a roadmap targeting commercial 6G deployment by 2029.

Why Semiconductor Firms Are Leading

Unlike previous generations of wireless technology, 6G is expected to extend far beyond faster smartphones. Industry leaders view it as the infrastructure connecting hundreds of billions of autonomous machines — from vehicles and drones to industrial sensors and robots.

NVIDIA is targeting the supply side by pushing AI-driven radio access networks built on graphics processing units (GPUs). Qualcomm, by contrast, is positioning itself on the demand side, aiming to dominate the 6G chip market powering next-generation devices and services.

As noted by Bloomberg, each new wireless cycle tends to trigger alliance-building among companies seeking to secure technological and commercial advantage.

A Strategic Decade Ahead

Although 6G standards remain under development, the groundwork for influence is already being laid. With AI integration at its core, 6G promises ultra-low latency, extreme bandwidth, and seamless connectivity across digital and physical systems.

The alliances formed at MWC suggest that the race for 6G leadership will not only shape telecommunications — it could redefine the broader digital economy for the next decade.
