Nyaho-Tamakloe Slams NPP Leadership: A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has criticised the party’s leadership for what he describes as a top-down approach to internal unity, warning that it could deepen divisions rather than heal them ahead of the party’s upcoming flagbearer election.
According to him, the peace pact signed by presidential aspirants on January 22 was rushed and risks undermining the credibility of the NPP’s January 31 presidential primary.
On Thursday, five aspirants seeking to lead the party signed the pact, committing themselves to a peaceful and transparent electoral process. However, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe argues that the gesture fails to address the fundamental challenges confronting the party following its electoral defeat.
“Deeper Issues Remain Unresolved”
Speaking on 3FM’s Hot Edition, the founding member cautioned that the January 31 primary could be damaging to the party if unresolved grievances and internal fractures are ignored.
“The so-called top-bottom approach clearly undermines the party’s democracy and may lead to discontent among party members. It is a very sad situation,” he stated.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe insisted that the leadership’s focus on symbolic actions such as the peace pact distracts from deeper structural and leadership problems that predate the 2024 elections.
“The fundamental issues within the party before the 2024 elections and even after the elections have not been addressed. This pact distracts from those problems,” he added.
Blames Akufo-Addo for Party’s Current State
The veteran politician did not spare former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he blamed for the internal decline of the party.
He argued that the leadership style adopted in recent years has weakened internal democracy and alienated critical voices within the New Patriotic Party.
Concerns Over Rushed Process
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe further warned that the pace at which the primary process is being carried out could have serious consequences for the party’s cohesion and electoral credibility.
“The entire process appears to be rushed and will surely compromise the integrity of the upcoming elections on January 31. Mark my words,” he cautioned.
He predicted that the rushed approach could ultimately lead to the collapse of the Electoral College process due to what he described as weak leadership foundations and a failure to follow due process.
Call to Party Elders
The outspoken party elder also expressed concern that the New Patriotic Party is gradually being destroyed by the actions of a few individuals, calling on respected elders of the party to intervene.
“This party is being destroyed by a few people, and we have elders who once played critical roles. I think it is time they wake up,” he said.
Nyaho-Tamakloe Slams NPP Leadership: Exclusion of Key Party Figures
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe criticised the leadership for failing to involve seasoned party figures he described as the “real backbones” of the NPP in reconciliation efforts.
“Why didn’t they invite people like Kwame Pianim—the real backbone of the party? People like Arthur Kennedy and Frimpong Boateng,” he questioned.
According to him, these individuals are driven by service rather than personal or financial gain and are essential to rebuilding the party’s integrity and future.
“These are people who are not in the party for financial gain. They are there to serve the ordinary people, and until such individuals are brought on board, this party has no future,” he warned.
