Super Bowl 60

Super Bowl 60: The Seattle Seahawks will meet the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 after two gripping championship games delivered contrasting paths to the NFL’s biggest stage on Sunday.

Seattle edged past the Los Angeles Rams 31–27 in a thrilling NFC Championship shootout, while New England relied on defensive grit to grind out a 10–7 victory over the Denver Broncos in a snow-lashed AFC title game.

The result sets up a Super Bowl rematch of 2015, when the Patriots denied the Seahawks back-to-back championships with a dramatic 28–24 win. This year’s NFL showpiece will take place on Sunday, February 8, in Santa Clara, California, at the home of the San Francisco 49ers.

Seahawks survive Rams thriller

The NFC Championship delivered exactly what fans hoped for as division rivals Seattle and Los Angeles met for the third time this season. Having split their regular-season meetings — separated by just one point and one yard in total — another tight contest was expected, and it did not disappoint.

Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold produced the finest playoff performance of his career, throwing three touchdown passes to match Rams veteran Matt Stafford in a high-octane duel. Seattle struck first through Kenneth Walker, but Kyren Williams’ response helped the Rams edge ahead 13–10.

However, questionable game management from Los Angeles allowed Seattle to regain control before halftime. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the league’s leading receiver this season, found the end zone to give the Seahawks a 17–13 lead at the break.

The game turned early in the third quarter when a muffed Rams punt handed Seattle a short field, which they converted into another touchdown for a 24–13 advantage. From there, the contest exploded into a flurry of scores.

Jake Bobo extended Seattle’s lead before the Rams surged back, with touchdowns from Davante Adams and Puka Nacua either side of a score from former teammate Cooper Kupp. Despite conceding the fewest points in the league this season, the Seahawks found themselves under intense pressure heading into the final quarter, clinging to a 31–27 lead.

Los Angeles had a golden opportunity to snatch victory during a drive that consumed more than seven minutes of clock time. But Colby Parkinson dropped a Stafford pass with a clear path to the end zone, and Seattle’s defence held firm inside the red zone, stopping the Rams on three straight plays.

A final possession with 25 seconds remaining proved too little, too late, sealing a dramatic victory for head coach Mike Macdonald and British defensive coordinator Aden Durde, who reach the Super Bowl in just their second season with the franchise.

For Seattle, this marks their fourth Super Bowl appearance and first since 2015, with their lone championship coming in 2014.

Patriots battle through blizzard to AFC crown

If Seattle’s win was built on fireworks, New England’s path was forged in ice and snow.

In brutal weather conditions in Denver, defence dominated as the Patriots edged the Broncos 10–7 to secure a record-extending 12th Super Bowl appearance — their first since Tom Brady led them to glory in 2019.

Quarterback Drake Maye, widely regarded as Matt Stafford’s main rival for this season’s Most Valuable Player award, delivered the game’s only touchdown with a determined rushing score after Denver backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham fumbled deep in his own territory.

The game was shaped by circumstances beyond the Patriots’ control. Denver were forced to start Stidham after Bo Nix suffered a broken ankle in last week’s divisional round. While Stidham threw an early touchdown to Courtland Sutton, two costly turnovers ultimately proved decisive.

Despite being sacked five times by a Denver defence that led the league in sacks, Maye showed composure beyond his years. He extended drives with timely scrambles and led a nine-minute possession in the third quarter that ended with Andy Borregales kicking what would be the winning field goal.

As snow blanketed the field, Denver missed a crucial 45-yard field goal and had one final chance snuffed out when Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez intercepted a desperate deep pass with just over two minutes remaining.

The win completes one of the greatest turnarounds in NFL history. After finishing 4–13 last season, owner Robert Kraft overhauled the coaching staff, appointing Mike Vrabel, who has engineered a stunning revival.

Now 50, Vrabel could make history by becoming the first person to win a Super Bowl as both a player and head coach with the same franchise.

Super Bowl 60 rematch awaits

Super Bowl 60 now promises a compelling clash between Seattle’s explosive offence and New England’s resurgent defence, renewing one of the most memorable rivalries of the modern NFL era.

With history, redemption and legacies on the line, the stage is set for a classic showdown in California.
