Nyaho-Tamakloe dares NPP to sack him if Frimpong-Boateng is expelled

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has openly challenged the party’s leadership to expel him and other founding members should it proceed with plans to remove former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, from the party.

The challenge follows confirmation by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, that the party has initiated internal disciplinary processes that could lead to the expulsion of Prof Frimpong-Boateng. The move comes in response to what the party described as “disparaging remarks” made by the former minister against the party’s leadership and internal structures.

In a statement, the NPP said Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s conduct and public utterances were “highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity and integrity of the Party.” His comments were made during an interview on Monday, January 12, 2026, in which he sharply criticised the current state of the party.

Nyaho-Tamakloe backs Frimpong-Boateng

However, speaking on TV3’s News Central on Tuesday, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said he entirely agreed with Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s assessment of the party and rejected claims that the former minister had made disparaging remarks.

“I listened to Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s interview and I must say without fear that I agree with him entirely. All the points that he raised are issues that are really worrying the party,” he stated.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, a former NPP presidential aspirant and long-standing critic of the party’s internal direction, challenged the leadership to extend the same disciplinary action to other founding members if they believe Prof Frimpong-Boateng deserves expulsion.

“What I will say at this stage is that if they sack Frimpong-Boateng, then they should sack me, they should sack Kwame Pianim, they should sack Dr Arthur Kennedy and quite a number of us,” he said.

He further dared the party leadership to carry out the expulsion.

“And whoever in NPP now thinks he can sack Frimpong-Boateng should try it. They should try it,” he added.

Calls for dialogue, not discipline

According to Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, the party should view Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s comments as a wake-up call rather than grounds for punishment. He described the former minister as a man of integrity with a proven record of service to the party and the nation.

“Frimpong-Boateng is not a kid. He is academically solid. He is a man of integrity, a hard-working person. He knows how to choose his words, and if he says the party is fake, he knows why he says so,” he noted.

He criticised the party’s leadership for failing to engage Prof Frimpong-Boateng through internal dialogue before resorting to disciplinary action.

“If I were them, they would have had a quiet discussion with him before coming out the way they came,” he stressed.

Warning of internal collapse

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe concluded with a strong warning, suggesting that the current handling of dissent within the party signals a deeper crisis that could threaten the NPP’s future.

“The manner in which the leadership of the party chose to handle this matter shows that the party is on its way to destruction,” he said, adding that he and other founding members would resist what he described as attempts to hijack the party.

“We shall make sure that these destroyers are rather removed from the party, so that the party that was formed by men of integrity will survive.”

It remains unclear whether the NPP’s disciplinary process against Prof Frimpong-Boateng will proceed to its final stage or whether the party leadership will reconsider its approach in light of growing resistance from senior and founding members.
