Thomas Frank

Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months at the club, following a disappointing run of results that left the North London side hovering just above the Premier League relegation zone.

The decision came shortly after Spurs suffered a 2–1 home defeat to Newcastle, a result that triggered loud boos and chants from frustrated supporters calling for the manager’s dismissal.

Poor Form Forces Tottenham’s Hand

Tottenham currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, only five points clear of the relegation zone. The team’s form has been alarming, with just two wins in their last 17 league matches.

In an official club statement, Tottenham confirmed the decision to make a managerial change.

“The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.
Results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”

The club also acknowledged Frank’s professionalism and commitment during his short spell in charge.

A Short and Difficult Tenure

Frank, who joined Spurs in June 2025 after a successful spell with Brentford, was brought in to replace Ange Postecoglou. Ironically, Postecoglou had been dismissed despite winning the Europa League, highlighting the club’s recent instability.

However, Frank struggled to win over the Tottenham fanbase. His time at the club was marked by:

  • Inconsistent performances
  • Early exits from domestic cup competitions
  • A lack of attacking identity
  • Growing tension with supporters

He leaves with 13 wins in 38 matches, and his 26.9% win rate is the lowest of any Tottenham manager in the Premier League era.

Sixth Permanent Manager in Seven Years

Frank’s departure continues a pattern of managerial instability at Tottenham. Since Mauricio Pochettino’s exit in 2019, the club has now moved on from five permanent managers, and they are set to appoint a sixth.

The club is reportedly considering an interim manager until the end of the season, though no clear candidate has emerged yet.

Assistant coach John Heitinga is among the names being discussed, but he himself was recently dismissed after a short spell as Ajax head coach.

Fan Pressure Played a Major Role

Reports indicate that the atmosphere inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had become toxic. During the defeat to Newcastle, supporters booed the team at half-time and full-time while chanting for Frank to be sacked.

According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, the club initially wanted to support Frank, but the situation had become impossible to manage.

“They had lost the fans. There was no way back. It had to be done.”

Even before kickoff in recent matches, Frank’s name was reportedly greeted with boos during team announcements, a clear sign that the supporters had lost faith.

What’s Next for Tottenham?

Frank’s successor will inherit a squad facing a difficult stretch of fixtures, including:

  • Arsenal (home)
  • Fulham (away)
  • Crystal Palace (home)
  • Liverpool (away)
  • Nottingham Forest (home)

Although Spurs are out of domestic cup competitions, they are still alive in the Champions League knockout stages, offering a potential path to redemption.

A Club Searching for Stability

Tottenham’s decision to sack Frank once again highlights the club’s ongoing struggle for stability in the managerial position. Frequent changes have made it difficult to build a long-term project, and the next appointment could be crucial for the club’s direction.

With the team dangerously close to the relegation zone and a crucial North London derby against Arsenal approaching, the pressure on the next manager will be immediate.
