NDC Committed to Equitable Development: The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to ensuring equitable and inclusive development across all six regions created in 2019, including the Western North Region.
According to him, while the creation of the new regions was largely administrative, the NDC remains the political party best positioned to translate that administrative decision into tangible development outcomes that will significantly improve the living standards of residents.
Mr Asiedu Nketia made these remarks during a two-day thank-you tour of the Western North Region, where he engaged with traditional authorities, religious leaders, party executives, grassroots supporters, and residents across several districts.
Thank-You Tour Across Western North
The tour covered key districts and municipalities including Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Sefwi Wiawso, Bia West, Bia East, Juaboso, Bodi, Akontombra, Suaman, and Aowin.
At each stop, the NDC Chairman interacted directly with community members, listening to their concerns and outlining the party’s development vision for the region.
Addressing residents in Juaboso, Mr Asiedu Nketia expressed heartfelt appreciation for the consistent support the NDC has enjoyed in the Western North, even during what he described as “difficult political periods” for the party.
“We have not taken your loyalty for granted. You stood by the NDC even when times were hard, and we are determined to ensure that your commitment is rewarded with real development,” he said.
Turning New Regions into Real Development
Mr Asiedu Nketia emphasized that the mere creation of new regions does not automatically lead to improved livelihoods unless it is backed by deliberate policies, strategic investment, and political will.
He argued that while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presided over the creation of the six new regions, it would take an NDC-led government to ensure they reach their full developmental potential.
“Creating regions is one thing; developing them is another. The NDC understands what it takes to turn new administrative regions into vibrant economic and social centres,” he stated.
He added that the NDC’s development philosophy is rooted in balanced national growth, ensuring that no region is left behind regardless of its political leanings.
Plans for Nursing Training College and Infrastructure Expansion
As part of the party’s commitment to the Western North, Mr Asiedu Nketia disclosed that plans are underway to establish a nursing training college in the region.
The proposed institution is expected to:
- Expand access to healthcare education
- Create employment opportunities
- Improve healthcare delivery across the region
- Reduce the burden on students who currently travel long distances to access nursing education
He further assured residents that major infrastructure projects being implemented in other parts of the country would be extended to the Western North, including road construction, education facilities, and healthcare infrastructure.
“Development will not be concentrated in a few regions. What other regions enjoy, Western North will also enjoy,” he assured.
Chiefs Welcome Appointments, Raise Development Concerns
Meanwhile, traditional leaders in the region welcomed recent government appointments involving indigenes of the area.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Sefwi Boinzan, the Chief of Sefwi Abrokofe, Nana Kwabena Yeboah II, expressed gratitude to the government for the appointment of the Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, as Minister of Health.
He also commended the appointment of Nana Ofori Ahenkan II as Board Chairman of the Ghana National Fire Service, describing both appointments as recognition of the region’s contribution to national development.
“These appointments have already begun to reflect positively on the district and the region as a whole,” Nana Kwabena Yeboah II noted.
Call for Urgent Road and Youth Employment Interventions
Despite expressing appreciation, the traditional ruler appealed to government to urgently address some pressing challenges confronting the region.
Top among these concerns were:
- The poor state of roads, which continues to affect trade, agriculture, and access to social services
- Rising youth unemployment, which he warned is exposing young people to social vices and criminal activities
He stressed that improving road infrastructure and creating sustainable employment opportunities for the youth would significantly enhance economic activity and social stability in the Western North.

MP Assures Residents of Road Development
The Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, also addressed residents and reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure in the area.
According to him, road development remains a top priority, particularly given the region’s importance as a major agricultural hub.
He outlined several critical road projects that have been earmarked for rehabilitation, including the Juaboso Barrier–Bonsu Nkwanta road, which serves as a vital link for farmers, traders, and commuters.
“Good roads are essential for development. We are working to ensure that these critical road networks receive the attention they deserve,” Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh assured.
Strengthening NDC’s Political Base
Political analysts say the thank-you tour forms part of the NDC’s broader strategy to consolidate its grassroots support while reinforcing its message of inclusive development ahead of future political contests.
The Western North Region, rich in cocoa, timber, and mineral resources, is increasingly viewed as a strategic area whose development could significantly contribute to national economic growth if properly harnessed.
Mr Asiedu Nketia’s visit, observers note, signals the party’s intention to maintain close engagement with traditional authorities and local communities as part of its governance and development approach.
Looking Ahead
As the tour concluded, the NDC Chairman reiterated that the party remains focused on delivering development that is people-centred, regionally balanced, and sustainable.
He urged residents to remain united and continue to actively participate in the democratic process, assuring them that the NDC’s vision for the Western North goes beyond promises to practical, measurable interventions.
With commitments ranging from healthcare training institutions to road infrastructure and youth development, the visit has raised expectations that the Western North Region will feature prominently in the NDC’s national development agenda.
