GRNMA–GAR: Delegates across 21 districts vote decisively as Jefferson Asare Danquah secures 141 votes to lead GRNMA Greater Accra Region.
The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association – Greater Accra Region (GRNMA–GAR) has elected Mr. Jefferson Asare Danquah as its substantive Regional Chairman following a closely watched electoral contest.

The long-awaited election came off on Friday, 20th February 2026, at the Regional Secretariat at Zoti, Korle-Bu. The constitutional exercise was triggered by the untimely demise of the late Regional Chairman, Elder Prince Opuni Frimpong, creating a vacancy that required a fresh mandate from delegates.
GRNMA–GAR: Delegates Converge from 21 Districts
Ten delegates each from the 21 administrative districts within the Greater Accra Region gathered to participate in the election, fulfilling the association’s constitutional requirements. The atmosphere was described as orderly and democratic, with keen interest from members across the region.
The election marked a significant moment for the regional branch, as members sought to elect a leader capable of consolidating unity and strengthening the association’s influence within the health sector.
Candidates in the Election
Five candidates contested in the Election:
- Squadron Leader Bismark Asare of the 37 Nursing and Midwifery Training College
- Mr. Samuel Hanu of the Mental Health Authority
- Mr. Prosper Kpobi from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital
- Mr. Jefferson Asare Danquah, the Acting Regional Chairman
- Mr. Michael Narh from the Public Health Nursing School
After voting and counting were concluded, Mr. Jefferson Asare Danquah emerged victorious with 141 votes, defeating his closest contender, Squadron Leader Bismark Asare, who secured 63 votes.
The margin of victory was widely described as decisive, signalling strong delegate confidence in his leadership.
Call for Unity and Collective Progress
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Danquah extended an olive branch to his fellow contestants and called for unity within the regional branch.
He urged members to put the election behind them and work collectively toward building the regional brand into an enviable one. He emphasised the need for collaboration, transparency, and strategic leadership to advance the welfare of nurses and midwives in the Greater Accra Region.
Observers noted that his message focused on strengthening advocacy, improving professional development opportunities, and enhancing the association’s visibility and credibility.
National Leadership Encourages Support
The 1st Vice President of the association, Samuel Alagkora Akolgo, Esq., delivered the closing remarks and urged all regional executives to rally behind the newly elected Chairman to ensure the realisation of his vision.

He stressed that unity within the regional executive body is essential for effective representation of members and the promotion of professional standards.
In a symbolic conclusion to the event, Mr. Akolgo administered the oath of office to the newly elected 1st Vice Chairperson of the region, Ms. Kate Botchwey-Mensah, as well as the appointed Assistant Public Relations Officer (APRO), Mr. Coleman Anani-Jr Adator.
A New Chapter for GRNMA–GAR
The election ushers in a new chapter for GRNMA–GAR at a time when the nursing and midwifery profession continues to play a critical role in Ghana’s healthcare system. With renewed leadership in place, expectations are high that the regional branch will consolidate gains, address member concerns, and strengthen advocacy efforts.
As delegates returned to their districts, the overarching message was clear: unity, professionalism, and strategic direction will define the next phase of the Greater Accra Regional branch of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.
