The U-15 Girls Regional Colts League has officially kicked off in the Eastern Region, marking a significant milestone in grassroots women’s football development in Ghana. The competition, organised under the FIFA League Development Programme, aims to identify, nurture and develop young female football talents while strengthening the foundation of women’s football in the country.
The successful start of the league reflects the growing commitment of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its regional bodies to invest in youth development, particularly at the grassroots level, where future national stars are discovered.

High-Profile Opening Ceremony Signals Strong Support
The opening ceremony attracted key stakeholders in women’s football development, underscoring the importance of the competition. Among those present were FIFA Technical Expert, Thubaelihle Bridgette Sibandda, Regional Football Association (RFA) Coordinator, Daasebre Adu Asare, and Women’s Development Officer, Jennifer Amankwa Sarpong.

Competitive Start as Matchday One Delivers Excitement
All Matchday One fixtures were played as scheduled, with young talents showcasing enthusiasm, discipline and competitive spirit across the various match centres in the region.

The results reflected the increasing competitiveness of girls’ football at the colts level, with teams demonstrating improved tactical awareness, teamwork, and technical ability.

Building the Future of Women’s Football
The smooth execution of the opening round highlights the improving organisation and structure of grassroots football in the Eastern Region. Beyond results, the league is primarily focused on player development, offering young girls consistent match exposure in a structured and competitive environment.
The U-15 Girls Regional Colts League is designed to:
- Provide regular competitive football for young female players
- Instil discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship
- Support technical and tactical development from an early age
- Create a clear pathway into higher-level competitions and national teams
By investing at this foundational level, the league plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of female footballers who could go on to represent clubs, regions and the national teams in the future.

Eyes on the Next Round of Fixtures
With the league now underway, attention turns to the upcoming fixtures as teams continue their development journey. Coaches, parents and football administrators will be watching closely as the competition unfolds, hopeful that the league will unearth the next crop of stars for women’s football in Ghana.
The successful kick-off of the U-15 Girls Regional Colts League once again demonstrates that grassroots football remains the heartbeat of sustainable football development, especially in the women’s game.
