2028 Elections: Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to brace themselves for the demanding task of securing victory in the 2028 general elections, stressing that success will require unity, discipline, and sustained hard work.
Dr. Bawumia made the remarks during the party’s national thanksgiving service held in Accra on Sunday, shortly after emerging victorious in the NPP’s presidential primaries. Addressing party faithful, including some of his former competitors in the race, he emphasised that the journey toward 2028 begins immediately.
“The road ahead will demand discipline, sacrifice, and hard work,” he told supporters gathered at the event.
According to him, the NPP cannot assume victory will come easily. Instead, he urged members to adopt a grassroots-focused strategy to reconnect with voters across the country.
“Victory in 2028 will not be gifted to us. It must be earned, constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
A Call for Reorganisation and Policy Renewal
The newly elected NPP flagbearer outlined plans to begin reorganising the party’s internal structures and refining its policy direction. He stressed the importance of strengthening the party’s machinery to ensure it is well-positioned and motivated ahead of the next national polls.
He indicated that reorganisation efforts would continue “in earnest,” with a focus on building a stronger, more cohesive political force capable of presenting credible alternative policies to Ghanaians.
Political observers say this signals the start of an intensive rebuilding phase for the NPP as it prepares to rebrand and reposition itself for the next electoral cycle.
2028 Elections: Emphasis on Party Unity
A major theme of Dr. Bawumia’s address was unity. He appealed to party members to move beyond internal divisions that may have surfaced during the primaries.
He urged supporters to set aside “personal grudges, internal suspicions, and factional lines,” calling for renewed trust and collaboration within the party’s ranks.
“Let us rebuild trust among ourselves. Let us return to the values that built this party: service, competence, respect for institutions, and belief in the Ghanaian people,” he said.
According to him, restoring unity within the party is a critical first step toward regaining the confidence of the electorate. He described the moment as the beginning of a broader mission to win back the trust and support of Ghanaians ahead of 2028.
Looking Ahead to 2028
With four years to the next general election, Dr. Bawumia’s message signals an early and deliberate mobilisation strategy. His focus on discipline, grassroots engagement, policy renewal, and internal cohesion suggests that the NPP intends to begin groundwork immediately rather than waiting for the election season.
As the political landscape gradually shapes up for 2028, all eyes will be on how effectively the NPP reorganises and markets its policy alternatives—and whether Dr. Bawumia’s unity message resonates across the party’s base and the wider electorate.
