Nyaho-Tamakloe challenges NPP: A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has openly challenged the party’s leadership over its decision to initiate disciplinary processes to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.

The development follows an interview granted by Prof Frimpong-Boateng on Channel One TV on Monday, in which he described the current NPP as a “fake” party, claiming it had departed from the ideals and principles upon which it was founded.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party announced that it had begun internal procedures that could lead to the expulsion of the former minister. According to the statement, Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s conduct and public comments were “highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity and integrity of the Party.”

Nyaho-Tamakloe Challenges NPP, backs criticism

Speaking in an interview on TV3’s News Central, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe threw his support behind Prof Frimpong-Boateng, insisting that the former minister’s comments were a fair reflection of the current state of affairs within the party.

“I listened to Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s interview and I must say without fear that I agree with him entirely. All the points that he raised are issues that are really worrying the party,” he stated.

According to Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, Prof Frimpong-Boateng did not err in making the remarks and should not be subjected to disciplinary action for expressing concerns about the party’s direction.

Dares party to extend expulsions

The veteran politician further challenged the NPP leadership to also expel him and other founding members if they proceed with the removal of Prof Frimpong-Boateng.

“What I will say at this stage is that if they sack Frimpong-Boateng, then they should sack me, they should sack Kwame Pianim, they should sack Dr Arthur Kennedy and quite a number of us,” he said.

He added:
“And whoever in NPP now thinks he can sack Frimpong-Boateng should try it. They should try it.”

Warns against destruction of party

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe warned that he would not sit idle while, in his view, the current leadership destroys the party built by its founding members. He criticised the leadership’s performance and handling of internal dissent, describing the situation as deeply troubling.

He further lamented what he described as a departure from the values of integrity and discipline that characterised the party at its formation, suggesting that the actions of the current leadership would disappoint the party’s founding fathers.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe mentioned late stalwarts of the party, including D.J. Darocha, Professor Adu Boahen, Peter Ala Adjetey, Stephen Okraku, B.K. Adama, Salifu Ibrahim, and Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali, noting that the current state of the party would leave them “turning in their graves.”

The NPP is yet to indicate when the disciplinary process against Prof Frimpong-Boateng will conclude or whether further engagement will be pursued to address the growing internal tensions.
