Ayawaso East Parliamentary Seat: Five aspirants seeking to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are scheduled to be vetted today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as the party prepares for a crucial by-election in the constituency.
The aspirants include Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament Mahama Naser Toure; Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria; the NDC’s Ayawaso East Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Ramme; Dr. Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed Sani.
All five candidates successfully filed their nomination forms on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, paving the way for the vetting process.

Speaking ahead of the exercise, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, Tanko Computer, explained that the vetting would be followed immediately by balloting. He added that the party has put measures in place to address any concerns that may arise in order to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
“We will be vetting the five of them and then proceeding with the balloting. After that, if there is any aggrieved candidate, the aggrieved committee will sit to hear that. There are four men and a lady,” he stated.
According to him, once the vetting and balloting processes are concluded and any grievances resolved the party will move swiftly to print ballot papers for the primaries.
“We want the committee to sit, if there is a need, so that we conclude the process of the vetting and balloting, then we proceed with the printing of the ballot papers for the EC to conduct a primary for us on February 7, 2026,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has officially announced that the parliamentary by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The upcoming vetting and primary are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the NDC’s chances as it seeks to retain the seat in what is anticipated to be a keenly contested by-election.
